Outdoor Learning Provision

Our outdoor learning areas have undergone a transformation in recent weeks. This has been a process which started in August with the support of Joan Henderson, an educational mentor who specialises in supporting play/ activity and project based learning for both indoors and outdoors. Having sought advice and inspiration from Joan, the next phase of the process was to seek funding to support our plan. With funding secured we were able to purchase items to support our teaching of Outdoor Literacy and Numeracy. I would like to thank Ciaran from Drain Outdoor Play Furniture for the quality of his products which we purchased and in the current climate with spiralling material costs, I thank him for remaining loyal to a quotation which was issued seven months previous. Ciaran’s generosity to St. Michael’s has been outstanding. After purchasing a number of items the remaining funding only stretched to a covered play area but upon many conversations with myself, Ciaran realised my vision was an outdoor classroom. I wish to thank Ciaran for making my vision a reality and for the extremely generous donation to ourselves!! Play/ Activity  and Project based learning will look slightly different in St. Michael’s now and we can’t wait to see the enjoyment and learning opportunities that arise from our new equipment.
