Special Visitors in Foundation Stage
Our Foundation Stage children were very excited to welcome two very special guests into our classroom. As part of our real life ‘Superhero’ topic and to correspond with Grandparents Day, we welcomed Granda Gerard and Granny O’ Kane into our room.
Granda Gerard shared stories of his childhood in Scotland and showed the children photographs of all his travels around the world. He told the children that although viewing the world is a wonderful experience, it is also important to remain close to those who are important to us, our family and friends. The children learnt a lot about our vast world from Granda Gerard but they equally learnt so much from his kind and gentle ways.
Granny O’ Kane answered lots of questions from our eager children who were enquiring about school in the past and she very quickly became a pro at dodging the more challenging questions. The children were amazed at her knitting talent and she showed us a very treasured garment that she made for one special little lady when she was born. Granny O’ Kane has now inspired a new generation of knitters in St. Michael’s Primary School.
I thank them both for giving up their time to come into our classroom and sharing their stories and words of wisdom with the children.
